We are Downeast Bicycle Specialists, based in the beautiful town of Conway, New Hampshire. While our name reflects our roots in the bicycle industry, we have a dedicated division that has grown to become Nalgene’s largest distributor of co-branded Nalgene bottles.

 

Our team specializes in helping businesses, organizations, and events create custom-branded Nalgene bottles featuring logos, event designs, and promotional messages. Whether you need bottles for a marathon, trade show giveaway, or corporate branding, we make the process completely stress-free.

Our parent company, Hans Johnsen Company, was founded in 1901 by Hans Johnsen, a Danish immigrant who arrived in the United States in the late 1890s. After passing through Ellis Island, he settled in Texas and later moved to Dallas, where he purchased the assets of Boren Bicycle in 1901 and renamed it Hans Johnsen Company. Over the years, the business has been involved in the bicycle, automotive parts, motorcycle, and lawnmower industries. In the 1920s, the company entered the locksmith business to support automotive garages that cut keys. By the 1930s, the focus shifted away from the automotive industry, encouraging bicycle dealers to offer key-cutting and lock services. In the 1940s, the locksmith and bicycle divisions became separate entities, and today, we operate exclusively in the bicycle and locksmith industries.  

 

Hans Johnsen Company remains 100% family-owned and operated, with all current owners actively involved in the business.
